Negative taken of December 30, 1984 clipping from unidentified newspaper with the description "Relief after ruling, Sheriff-elect Howard Carney, left, and Floydel Haley, center, a Carney supporter, exchange words after a ruling in Osceola, Mississippi County, Arkansas, Circuit Court Friday which named Carney the new sheriff ... At right is outgoing sheriff G. Cook." During the 1984 election, Howard Carney was elected sheriff of Mississippi County, Arkansas by a write in vote. Due to the close election results between Carney and incumbant Sheriff E.E. (Hoss) Cartwright, the election was recounted twice before Carney was finally delared the winner. Floydel Haley was also a candidate in the election for sheriff. George Cook was a former Mississippi County sheriff, warden at the Arkansas Department of Corrections, and Mississippi County deputy coroner. As of 2001, Haley and Carney both live in Blytheville, Mississippi County, Arkansas.
